I am disgusted by the lackadaisical coverage of the pet food recall. I first heard about it Houston’s Fox affiliate, Channel 2. Despite assurance from the newscaster that information was available on their website, I found nothing after nearly an hour of searching. I then shot off a very angry email to the station mentioning that they need to get their priorities straight. They give approximately 15 seconds to coverage of a huge pet food recall that has resulted in the deaths of dogs and cats across the nation and 5 minutes to coverage of Anna Nicole-Smith’s baby custody case. They should be ashamed.

Three days later as the huge list of brands is released, they give it about 30 seconds of coverage. After a little searching, Channel 2 now links to a short story that links to the Menu Foods webpage for more information.

At the Menu Foods site… they list the brands of dog food and cat food. This is the dog food list:

The poor response doesn’t end there however, when you click on the Iams and Eukanuba links – you don’t get variety names and lot numbers – you get another link to go to their website for information. If you needed another reason to quit using Iams and Eukanuba, their lack of help in identifying these deadly bags/cans of food is as disgusting as their ongoing use and abuse of animals.

UPDATE: Tonight’s evening Channel 2 news finally gave the story some importance and actually opened with five minutes of coverage. Kudos!
