Another exciting week of action just got underway last night with the big wins by Austin Lake Travis over Austin Westlake and Spring Westfield making child’s play of Cypress Falls. Earlier in the week, myself, “Mighty” Mike Wright and Eric Wiede sat down to look ahead at a lot of the action.
We traveled over 2,000 miles in Week Zero attending games around the state and saw some of the best. We visited top teams from the small enrollment and huge tradition of the Cuero Gobblers to the behemoths known as Euless Trinity.

This week is another great one although I do expect more blowouts this go-round. One thing I wanted to mention though was that I have been to hundreds of high school football games in Texas and NEVER seen one that I didn’t enjoy. Look at the example of last week’s Cuero vs Beeville Jones blowout. Sure the score got out of hand, but the atmosphere was worth the trip. Its about so much more than those mythical ‘top ten’ teams fighting it out for supremacy – its about the band, the cheerleaders, the parents/siblings/relations, and of course the effort of the athletes – you name it… this stuff ROCKS!!
If the extent of your involvment in Texas high school football is reading the scores, arguing on the message boards, or watching the highlights on TV – you are missing out. Get to a game and it all becomes clear.
