When I picked up Valley of Genuis: The Uncensored History of Silicon Valley by Adam Fisher, I expected a simple retelling of the same old stories (ala Pirates of Silicon Valley etc.) It is a much a book report as a book. What I mean by that is that Fisher has collected a series of interviews and quotes and then put them together to tell a story. The book is long on content (interview, quotes, etc.) and short on story.
That isn’t to say I didn’t like VoG… I actually loved it. I loved partly because of growing up and being involved with many of the technologies and personalities described here and partly because of the new information I gleamed.
There is much more dirt here than the sanitized fairy-tale version that is retold in so many other “history of Silicon Valley” retellings. It didn’t come across as dirt though… it reads more like Paul Harvey’s “rest of the story.”
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
