Found an RSS problem

Okay, so most of you will either a) not have a clue what I am talking about or b) not give a flip.  I just felt that for the nerd in-the-know, I would bring them up to speed on an issue I discovered.

Turns out that sometime a couple months ago, I made a tweak to the website and since then - without my noticing - the feed was screwed up.

I still don’t know what I did, but somehow the feed itself got changed - long story short, those of you who read RWTWD in a feed reader, will suddenly notice a boatload of posts.  I guess there are times when it pays that I have been neglecting this site so much.

Look for the frequency to increase as I get “back in the swing” of things.

Peace!

Facebook - a swing and a miss

Wow, the new homepages on facebook have to be the single biggest bad move I have seen in social networking…. period.  They took everything that was good about facebook, deleted it or hid it in the background, and what we are left with is a twitter with more than 140 characters.  Boo hiss.

Did anyone think to ask the users what they liked about facebook?  It wasn’t the stream of stuff you could or could not give a damn about from your friends - it was YOUR homepage.  It was about YOU.  It was about YOUR likes - YOUR thoughts - YOUR games - YOUR posts.

The good news for blogging is that while facebook was the single biggest killer to personal blogs, this move has increased their relevance overnight.  Thank you facebook for removing the ongoing struggle between posting to my personal blog or facebook - you just made it a very easy choice.

Dave is my BFF - best friend forever!

Flixster (by way of Facebook) has confirmed it - Dave and I are best friends. Okay, they are talking about our movie compatibility rating,  but he did come out my most compatible person when it comes to liking similar movies.

Normally, I run away from these widgets,add-ons,whoseywhatsits like the plague, but saw it on Dave’s Facebook and gave in to my curiosity.

No registration required

Okay, after getting a couple of complaints, I have finally got off my butt and turned off the registration requirement for posting comments. Its not that I wanted people to have to register, its just that I was too lazy to get around to changing the settings.

Alright - that means its time for YOU to comment!!!

Puh-lease

I would have thought the whole blogging “code of conduct” thing would have died down by now. If you don’t know what I am talking about - consider yourself lucky and move on.. the whole issue is a tired waste of time.

The way I see it (and my blog is all about the way I see things) if you are going to toss yourself out in the public eye, you are going to attract some weirdos. If you don’t want the weirdos, stop throwing yourself in front of the crowd. Take down your blog - turn off the microphone - shut off the camera - get off the damn stage. Problem solved.

Sure, there are some jerks out there and sure, they say some rude and hurtful things… thats part of the price of Internet fame. A “Code of Conduct” among bloggers is going to nothing more than drive traffic to the site of the guy that created the CoC badge. If someone breaks the law and makes a threat against you - take it up with the police… let’s not create another level of Big Brother. Even talking about this code opens the door for the FCC and nobody wants that.

One of my favorite sayings applies… .”SAVE THE DRAMA FOR YOUR MAMA!”

Layin’ it out there

A friend asked me the other day, “I saw you still had pictures and entries about old girlfriends on your blog - do you think that’s a good idea? What if a new girlfriend reads it?”

My immediate answer was the flippant one I use all the time, “Hey, I’m an open book,” but it got me to thinking about whether or not blogging habits affect a person. Stay with me here…

I have always been pretty adamant about not lying… but in a pinch, I would get around it by withholding information. I used to do things like dating a couple girls at the same time and when asked a question like, “what did you do last night?” I would respond “sat around watching TV” or whatever I did. What I failed to mention was who was sitting around watching TV with me.

The question is… Does blogging put it ALL out there and thus turn you into a more honest person? Or perhaps do bloggers still find themselves omitting key parts of blog entries that might embarrass or incriminate themselves? My guess is that it depends on who is doing the blogging. Personally, I can’t remember half the time if I blogged about something or was just telling a friend about an incident. If I were to change or enhance the story, the odds of me keeping different versions straight would be about nil.

In the end… I think I have grown beyond the need to make myself look good all the time and find that as often as not I am blogging about a faux pas rather than my latest daring exploit. Or then again… this could all just be designed to make myself look good.

Big ups to Laanba

I picked up a cool meme on A Thousand Thoughts… the idea is to post something each day in August that you are happy about. Being a happy person - that should be no problem.

I guess since it is already the 2nd when I started this, I have to post two things today:

I am happy about…
1 - the fact that I have a great dog named Lou.
2 - that there are 1,103 websites referencing my blog (according to TalkDigger.)

tune in tomorrow for another happy thought. :)

Maybe I’ll record it

I was asked by Jocelyn if it would be okay to post in her blog about my song Blogebrity. That got me to thinking about picking up the minus track to the song “Celebrity” by Brad Paisley and recording the song. If anyone has the minus track (karaoke version) of the song - please send it to me in MP3. If I find it in the meantime, look for a recording of the song soon!

UPDATE: Just minutes after posting this and looking for the song - I found it!!! Today, I will be working on putting out the first PMC Top10 show, but after that I will take a shot at recording it!
