First, let me start by saying that I am NOT a fan of 3D movies.  The stuff purposely flying toward the screen is campy and takes the viewer out of the story.  The 3D glasses are uncomfortable.  There is really nothing positive that I can report about 3D movies in a normal theater.  IMAX 3D however, is different.

Dawn, the boys and I went to see Born to Be Wild 3D at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and were blown away.  It chronicles two women who have devoted their lives to saving orphaned wildlife – one with baby elephants and the other with orangutans.

Okay, so as documentaries go, it was nothing special.  It was good, but nothing more than anything you see on Animal Planet or Discovery Channel.  Where BtbW rocks is in the use of 3D and of course, the IMAX format.  The cinematography will blow you away as you feel completely transported back and forth between the two settings.  This stuff actually looks like you are right there with the animals.   Add the visceral visuals to a touching story with narration by Morgan Freeman, and you can not help but be moved.

Take the whole family.  You will be glad you did.
