I found this book too on a list of books that are being made into movies this year. Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail is the tale of a young woman that needed to find herself. She recently lost her mother to cancer, even more recently divorced after much infidelity on her part, recently stopped using herion and seemed ready to stop spinning out of control.
It is enthralling as Cheryl comes to terms with things and discovers herself along the way. Sure, there isn’t a neat bow placed on the story at the end, but it leaves you with the clear message that, “hey, if someone as screwed up as her can fix things… my life shouldn’t be that hard to straighten out.”
I was discussing the upcoming movie with my wife and she suggested that Sandra Bullock would have been great for the role and I have to agree. She would kill it – she is that excellent an actress (I loved her in Gravity – in fact, I think I’ll do my review on that soon too.) Reese Witherspoon however, has been cast in the role and while I don’t think she can carry the emotional moments as well as Bullock, I hope to be surprised. I can certainly see her in all other aspects of the role and look forward to seeing it on the big screen.
