2014 Book Goal: 52 (mostly non-fiction)
2014 Books Read: 11 (73% non-fiction)
I decided to give Stephen King another try. I really enjoyed his book 11.22.63 and while my rereading of The Long Walk was a bit too dark for me, I figured I would give him another try. Full Dark, No Stars is a collection of novellas and I read only the first one.
Okay, I didn’t actually read the whole thing. I just had to quit. Maybe it is maturity, maybe I just don’t like the negativity. Whatever it is, I had to stop because I was just “feeling icky” reading it. I think that if something doesn’t enlighten or uplift you – it is a waste of time.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a good scare or even a creepy movie… I just don’t have the patience for it long-term. Just as I can’t get into TV shows like American Horror, a book just is too big an investment of time to waste on something that has no redeeming value.
Wow. That sounded really negative, and I don’t mean to put down Stephen King. I still think he is one of my favorite authors. His style or writing has played a huge role in my own. His book On Writing is one of the best on the subject.
I think however, I am done with my experimentation returning back to reading King. That time has passed for me now.
