10 day no sugar challengeToday marks the fifth day of our no sugar challenge. Dawn and I have decided to go completely sugar-free for the 10 days. It’s something that she saw on I think the Katie Couric show one of those and she wanted to try it so I figured “what the heck, I’ll do it too.” We didn’t go sign up on their website or anything like that, just decided to drop sugar from our diet.

We are talking no added sugar OR sweeteners. That means things like Nutrisweet or anything like aspartame, etc. are off the table too.  It doesn’t have to be a big drawn-out process, we are just trying to limit anything with added sugar.

A little bit of background for you. I never been a big sugar or sweet fan.  Sure, I love me a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, but I don’t get them all the time. Something about getting married and and having regular meals changed all of that because we tend to finish up with dessert. And now, it seems that I always need to cleanse the palate at the end of the meal was something sweet. I am so hooked!

The other big thing for me were the soft drinks. I used to drink them all the time. I had weaned myself off of them but as you know they come back. I think a lot times, that is just habit – not actual craving.

So how has the challenge gone so far? It hasn’t been too bad. Sure, the first couple days I had a hankering for a soft drink. But, haven’t really wanted one since.

I did get headaches after day two and three. Dawn suggested that it may be from the brain craving sugar. But as of right now, it’s all fine.

Surprisingly, I haven’t really had any desire for sweets. I’ve joked with Dawn like, “Mmmm.. I sure could use a cookie now,” or “You know what would be great with this hamburger? A Coke.”

I figured it would be a lot tougher than it actually is. Again, we are only 5 days into this 10 day challenge, so who knows… I may be a stark raving lunatic by the time it’s all over.

Or maybe, I will just eat healthy and live longer.
