I have loved reading Gitomer’s business columns in newspapers for 30 years and finally broke down and bought one of this books. (It won’t be the last.) He is a no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is kind of guy. He doesn’t sugar coat things at all.
He does spend quite a bit of time making it clear how he copyrighted several phrases and informing the reader that he will sue if someone uses them. The threats are just downright weird to be sprinkled throughout the book, especially when most of them were first published by folks like Dale Carnegie, albeit phrased differently. At these times, Gitomer changes from a wise sage to a swindler or shyster.
Sure, he comes across as a braggart or used car salesman at times, but that is his gimmick. If you can look past his bravado, there are tons of sales – and self-improvement – gems littered throughout this book.
The layout appeared to be designed for the short attention span world, but if you understand his style of writing, it is clear that he threw together all these gems from tidbits he has published elsewhere.
Regardless of what led to the creation, it is a good book. It is small and designed so you can read it all the way through or simply pick it up at any page and get something useful.
