I discovered Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman as an audio book. It kept thinking, “Man, this would be a good movie or series.” Turns out it was earlier done as a BBC TV series… told you it would be good series. 🙂
This story set in modern-day London was an absolute blast. Richard Mayhew begins his adventure by doing a good deed. This good deed, as all fantasy sci-fi good deeds do, leads him to an amazing new world of action and adventure. The action takes place in London Below, a subterranean London set in a different time and a different plane of existence.
It has all the action/adventure/fantasy elements of Harry Potter and I really can’t wait to find the TV series and see it all in action.
I’ve never been a big meal Gaiman fan, mainly because the thing I knew him from was the Sandman graphic novels and that never appealed to me. No, I didn’t read any of them. The artwork looked dark and sinister and that just didn’t interest me.
If you like adventure though, you will love this one. I listen to the BBC Radio dramatized audio of the story actor James McAvoy (X-Men) played Richard and the Angel Islington was played by none other than Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock.) They totally suck me into this story. It is not very long and seemed to fly by. Good stuff.
