I watched the 2013 documentary on Netflix Salinger last night and was reminded that I have never read Catcher in the Rye. Even though this was standard fare in high school and college English classes, somehow I never had to read it.
The documentary told the story of a troubled, yet intriguing author who fought demons from World War I as well as his place in society. It tells of a disillusioned young man whose only goal was to be published in the New Yorker and the increasingly secretive and strange behavior that immediately followed.
I knew about the trio of killers that gave Catcher in the Rye as their reason for killing, but this documentary even shed some light in that area.
In a nutshell, it was a 7 but it did prompt me to download as much as his writing as I could locate with the goal of reading Catcher at least and possibly more.
Have you read Salinger? What are your thoughts? What should I expect?
