How Not to Die is a Game-Changer
A couple of weeks ago, I made a drastic change to my diet. I hinted at this when I shared an image I called “healthiest grocery store trip ever.” (right)
I decided to go with a whole food, plant-based diet largely because of the book I am about to review.
How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease is a very important book for me. No, not because I have a disease but because I have lived my life avoiding most of the foods that Michael Greger M.D. claims are the cure for nearly all of the biggest killers.
This is the first time I’ve been truly inspired by a book of this nature. Sure, I’ve read a ton of books on health, fitness, diet etc. and intellectually was on-board. This time however, I am moved. I am on-board with my heart and not just my head.
Why is How Not to Die different? First, it doesn’t preach and it doesn’t come across as someone trying to convince you to see the world his way. Dr. Greger just lays out the facts (with the latest studies) and leaves it to the reader to decide what to do with the knowledge. You aren’t told what to think and I appreciate not being patronized.
Speaking of facts, this books is loaded with them. It may seem dense at times, but Greger’s writing style is conversational and is easy to digest. HNtD has 576 pages with hundreds of studies and research results but it doesn’t feel at all like a textbook nor medical journal.
The overwhelming evidence how transitioning from a mostly animal-based diet to more of a whole food, plant based diet can dramatically affect your health is impossible to ignore. I cannot recommend a single book more than this one. It is that good and it is that important. Even if you can’t convince yourself to take all the suggestions, just adding one or two diet changes could have a dramatic result in your health.
