Where do I stand on 2017 Goals?

2017 is already half over! These years just keep going faster and faster. It seems like a good time for a review of 2017 goals. Where do I stand on tasks I set out to accomplish at the beginning of the year? Here are a few of my goals (the ones I bothered to write down) and where I stand on each:

Read 52 books (1 a week) – The last time I set this as a goal (2014) I finished with 76 and look to be on pace to easily achieve this again. As of right now, I have read 37 this year thus far. I am 67% of the way to my goal with only 50% of the year gone.

Hike 100 miles – A fast start, a slight hiccup and then the miles have started to fall away. I have to say, it hurts more to hike five mile that ride 15 – but I guess that means it is good for me. It looks like I am going to fall short on this goal as my hiking buddy bagged out on me and I prefer cycling when by myself. My total at the midway point: 39.44 miles

Cycle 1,000 miles – This goal would be the most I’ve ridden in a single year since 2001.  Well it has been 16 years in the making, but I’m on pace to reach it easily. (Especially with my Tour de 1/10th starting today.) My total for the year right now sits at 741.9 miles. I’ve actually already logged enough to be my most since 2001 and it appears that I may be on pace to break the most mileage I have had since 1989!

Lose weight – I think the reason I haven’t done better at this goal is because I didn’t make it specific.  Had I chosen a number of pounds I intended to lose, I trust I would be on pace.  As such, I have lost a total of 15 lbs this year  – most of it happened the first few months. I have plateaued the last month but will get it going again.

Publish bookALL I NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED FROM MY TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL COACH: A handbook of wisdom for parents, young people and yes, even coaches!  is officially published and awaiting the release date of August 7th.  It was completed early in the year but I really wanted it to come out during the lead-up to the start of the season.

Write another book – I am hard at work on my next book… look for more information as it takes shape. In addition, I am editing a book written by a good friend – look for more on that soon as well.

As you can see, I am getting some things done. Hopefully, I will finish strong. What are your goals for the year? How are you doing?
