photo: the chemistry between these two is palpable
Finally Watched this Classic
Everyone has heard of Casablanca. Everyone can quote the lines like “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.“, “Play it, Sam. Play As Time Goes By.” (Often misquoted as “Play it again, Sam.“) and of course, “Here’s looking at you, kid”
Until now however, I had never actually seen the film. I know – strange from someone who digs classic film so much.
Casablanca is Humphrey Bogart at his absolute brooding best and Ingrid Bergman at her most stunningly beautiful. Together they are amazing. The story is exceptional too. It brings you along on an intriguing ride that slowly unfolds with intense emotion every step of the way. Perhaps because I have felt like Bogey as he was given devastating news while boarding a train in Paris, or perhaps because director Michael Curtiz just did such a good job, I felt this film strongly.
It is a story of intrigue, of passion, of betrayal and of melancholy complications. It is completely engulfing and kept me glued to the end. For that reason, it is one of the few times I have ever given a movie 10 stars. It is that good!
