Best Peter Parker Yet

I finally saw Spider-Man: Homecoming and I think they’ve almost got it with the wall crawler.

Let me say that it really bugs me when they change the actors playing a superhero. The number of spideys annoys me as much as the number of Hulks. But, just like the green Goliath, I think they finally got it right. Yes, Tom Holland is a bit goofy at times but he is the closest I have seen to the actual comic book version. He is definitely the Spider-Man worthy of banking the franchise on.

When I saw that Michael Keaton was playing Vulture at first all I could think about was him as Birdman. You know what though? It really works. The collar of his jacket was a nice throwback to the comic book villain.

I am still not sold on Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. I get that they want to use younger actors but I’m sorry, May is supposed to be an elderly lady – end of story. I am also not sold on the new suit that Tony Stark showed Peter – it’s a little too X-Men reboot-y for my taste.

In the pantheon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) this film is a great fit in terms of continuing to tell the story and unite the players, yet different enough to provide a respite from the same heavy themes of the others. Spider-man’s injection of comedy and humanity is a welcome addition to the MCU.
