Who Moved My Cheese: An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life by Spencer Johnson is another one of those books that is on every business bookshelf that I have never read.
When it first came out, I was intrigued but the more I heard about it, the less I wanted to read. I was in a definite being different from the crowd time in my life. I seemed to run away from anything that got too much hype. The subtitle alone is a LOT of hype…. an amazing way to deal with… that is just hyperbole.
I was searching through the library online audiobook collection and placed a few books on hold. Then I saw it. The 10th anniversary edition and it was available now. Â That phrase was all it took – available now. I was running out of books to play on my bike rides and needed something while I waited for my holds.
I can see why the book was a hit. It is a quick read. It is told as a parable. It has a good message. It is easy to understand. It is deeper than it seems.
Yes, Johnson does belabor the point as he took what should have been a half-hour talk and stretched it into nearly two hours. As an author though, I understand the need to make it “book worthy” in length.
This is a great read for someone new to business – or new to life for that matter. It is also a good reminder for the folks that have “been there and done that.”
