I stumbled upon Absolutely Anything as a new release on Netflix because I saw Simon Pegg was the lead. Pegg is funny and he is as likely to make a film I love (Shaun of the Dead ) as one that does nothing for me (Hot Fuzz.)
When I first saw Kate Beckinsale was in the film, I was sure it was going to be a winner. I mean, is it possible that she gets better looking each time I see her? She was absolutely stunning in this film.
I was also pleased to discover it was written by Monty Python veteran, Terry Jones. Again, that could mean great things (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian) or so-so (Erik the Viking.) As it included fellow Pythonians (is that word?) John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin & Eric Idle, I thought it had a pretty good shot at being entertaining.
Of note, this is the last movie credit for Robin Williams (as the voice of Dennis the dog.)
So was this absolutely hilarious? Not really. It was watchable. I mean, I watched from start to finish and never really felt any desire to shut it off. I did laugh out loud one or two times, but it certainly didn’t keep me chuckling.
This movie is a collection of cute jokes, a good performance by everyone involved and my realization that Beckinsale is even prettier as a girl next door.
