Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee is a book I had heard about but never got around to reading it. That is no longer the case.
The idea is that Harper Lee, famous for the book To Kill a Mockingbird published Watchman some 50+ years after that pivotal work. It was not exactly a sequel but rather an unpublished manuscript that was turned down decades earlier by publishers. There is even some conspiracy theorists who say the entire thing was a creation by Lee’s estate to cash in on her name.
Regardless of when it was written, who it was written by or what the intent of writing it was… I decided to give it a read. In short, I didn’t finish.
It is nothing like Mockingbird – in fact, it’s not even very good. That is why I couldn’t finish it. There was nothing in it that kept me interested. Maybe my review should be discounted because I only read about 1/4 of the book, but I just couldn’t finish.
There are too many great books out there to waste my time on this.
