These are just a few of the articles I have written about music nerdiness. (I think I just made up a word.) The point is, this is a big part of my life… the ability to listen to whatever music I like whenever I like.
I wanted to clue you in to a system I have been using recently that involves three different music apps – but serves my needs.
Given:
- I think Pandora does a better job than the others when it comes to their “radio” function – finding similar songs to play.
- Spotify is the best at playing exactly the song you want to hear when you want to hear it. Spotify is not as good at discovery.
- SoundHound is the hands down best at being able to identify a song by sound.
How is that for music nerd? I am using algebra proofs in my example. haha
Here is my latest way to find a great selection of music.
Step 1 – Turn on Pandora (lately it has been the Yacht Rock Radio station because it has great 70s easy-listening music) and just start listening.
Step 2 – Open the SoundHound app on my phone.
Step 3 – When I hear a song I want to add to my playlist, I hit the button on SoundHound – it identifies the track. But more than that, I have it connected to my Spotify account so it adds it to my SoundHound playlist on Spotify. It does this automatically. (it will do this with Apple Music too, I just don’t like that one)
- SoundHound listening to song
- It found it and automatically adds to Spotify!
Step 4 – Next time I am in Spotify, open the SoundHound playlist and add the songs to the appropriate playlist in Spotify.
- My SoundHound playlist on Spotify
- Adding the song to my preferred playlist
It sounds like a lot of work, but it is really quick and easy once you understand the flow of information.
