After reading some things about it recently, I decided to give it a shot.

I really did not like the film at all. First, it was very sad.  I don’t really like sad films. In effect, it is a modern day retelling of Pinocchio (a theme it highlights itself) with much darker overtones.

Yes, Spielberg does a good job in the telling but I am just not a fan of the subject matter – the loss of a child, child abuse, irrational reactions, the attempt to break love down into a set of coded instructions. None of it is very positive.

This is a “watch once and never again” film.
