When I first saw the previews to Lion, I thought, “hmm… that looks interesting.” Most of the time when a film falls into that category I usually never end up watching it. This one I did.
Lion is the story of a five year old Indian boy who becomes separated from his brother and after getting on the wrong train travels thousands of miles away becoming hopelessly lost. Without spoiling the outcome of this true story, let me say it is a search that covers the globe taking years.
The lead character Saroo is portrayed brilliantly by Sunny Pawar (above) and Dev Patel. Director Garth Davis does a great job of putting you in the place (and heart) of Saroo as he faces struggles in his search for home.
There are no explosions, no fast cars, no scantily-clad women and no super heroes. There is a well-told story with realism, great visuals, good acting and a true story that will keep you enthralled throughout.
RATING 8 out of 10
