I normally don’t really like celebrity bios but that wasn’t the case for Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls by Lauren Graham. The only reason I even picked it up was because I was such a big fan of the series Parenthood (picture.) Although she was far from my favorite person in this great cast, this was one of the best TV series I have seen in a long time. It had a lot of heart. It was written well. It didn’t overtly push a political agenda. It respected the family.
I had no idea Graham had been on a series called The Gilmore Girls – heck, I had never watched a second of it and only vaguely had ever heard it mentioned. That changed last year when it came on Netflix and Dawn conned me into watching a couple of episodes. I can’t say I really liked it. It wasn’t bad, but it just isn’t my type of show. This book was my type though.
Again, I went with the audio version – which is so much better because Graham herself reads it. Although I really couldn’t relate in a fanboyish way to the stuff in there about GG, I could relate to her as an actor and a person. If you love the Gilmore Girls, I am suspecting you will love this book. If you loved Parenthood, you’ll like this as well. If you like good writing, you will definitely be on board.
