The Murder of Jim Fisk for the Love of Josie Mansfield: A Tragedy of the Gilded Age by H.W. Brands is a book that I read last month but totally forgot to review. Brands does a great job of transporting you in time back to that Gilded Age in this book. He is a masterful story-teller.
It is a fascinating look at this murder, but it is much more. It involves a love triangle, corruption and New York city at the peak of the Tammany Hall and Boss Tweed era. Whether you remember a little or a lot of that from high school history class, you will like this telling. Of the more than 80 books I knocked out this year, this went faster than most because it kept my interest.
