Tag starring Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Ed Helms, LilRel Howery, Jake Johnson & Annabelle Wallis (among many more in this ensemble cast) is a movie that I could have said, “I absolutely loved!” Unfortunately however, I can only say, “It was really good.” Why the difference? Simply, the language.

At the risk of sounding like a prude, it really just wasn’t needed. When a film uses blue language simply for the effect, it smacks of lazy writing. In a film like The King’s Speech it makes sense… here it is just gratuitous. It is too bad, because the rest of the writing was really good.

This story of adults playing a game of tag is not only a good story, it’s real. These guys (many more are in the group in real life) have played this game each year during the month of May for decades. That premise, combined with a funny script and great comedic timing, leaves you laughing out loud… not the LOL we share while texting. We are talking loud belly laughs.

Maybe the folks at VidAngel can clean this one up a bit and it will enjoy more success with the larger audience. According to the Motion Picture Association of America, PG-13 films out-gross R rated ones by more than double. Surely, they could have pulled out a few F-bombs and d*ck jokes to double their money?
