Class Central just released a list of 190 Universities offering 600 free online courses. If you understand the world of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) you understand that this is a big deal. I have taken a half dozen courses this way and it is a great tool for expanding your knowledge.

The catch for many of these courses is that you do not get official course credit from the University, you instead get a certificate of completion. That factors in if your goal is a certain degree. If your goal is knowledge, then it doesn’t matter. As I mentioned in my 2014 post, I have taken courses at Wharton School of Business, Stanford, Duke and others.

Yes, of these 600 new courses there are a ton of offerings that have no interest for me and likely available only to push a university’s political agenda more than anything. I really can’t imagine someone wanting to sit through a course on Trans People in the Workplace or Make Change Happen from the Open University – but to each their own.

Their business model is to offer the courses free to audit and if you want credit, you can pay. The information taught is the same.

As the article points out, there are now over 10,000 courses available.
