I recently watched The Highwaymen on Netflix simply because of the cast. Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson are enough to give any flick a chance. I didn’t even realize it was about Bonnie and Clyde until a couple minutes in. Their story was fresh on my mind after just finishing Go Down Together: The True Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde by Jeff Guin.

Of course, I watched the film with an eye toward how accurate this telling was compared to the book. It turns out that with only a couple of minor exceptions, The Highwaymen does a great job of being very true to life. The idea of telling the story from the point of view of the men that gunned down Clyde and Bonnie was a refreshing angle.

It is true to the brutal ending of the crime duo and that may be off-putting to some watchers. For those who are okay with that, it is well worth watching.
